
The Write the Book Now! Interview and Podcast Show’s guests Thursday, January 11 are authors LaTanya S. Sothern, Kelsey Freeman, Aviyah A. Forrest and Wendy Harrell.
LaTanya S. Sothern has been an educator for over 20 years. She is a passionate supporter of children diagnosed with disabilities and it is her mission to help them get services appropriate for their needs.
A native Washingtonian, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication and Economics from The American University and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Howard University. She is certified in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and School Administration; achieved National Board Certification (Early Childhood Generalist); established a special-needs ministry at her church and is the President and C.E.O. of Sothern Education Solutions, LLC – offering special education consulting and advocacy. Ms. Sothern currently serves as an administrator in the Prince Georges County public school system.
Her first book, “The Birth of an Advocate: How My Son Helped Me Find My Voice,” was featured at the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus convention.
She has been happily married to her husband Greg for 18 years. They reside in Prince George’s County, Maryland with their two sons, Thomas III (Tré) and Quinton.
Kelsey Freeman is 27 and married to the guy that stole her heart from the moment he opened the car door for her at 2 am. She would be a full-time student and volunteer if it was socially acceptable! Instead, She owns a Public Relations and Social Media Marketing firm and serves as the youth director at her church, which lets her share her heart, faith, and love of words with others.
She is a night owl, politics, and sports junkie, some of her favorite adventures have happened with characters in a book and if you want to make her day, bring her coffee and enchiladas!
Aviyah A. Forrest is a lifelong resident of Maryland. She lived in Prince George’s County for more than 30 years. She currently lives in Baltimore with her two beautiful children. She has been a public school teacher for nearly 20 years and is a National Board Certified
Teacher. She is an avid horseback rider, and in her younger years, she even competed on her college team. Summer is her favorite time as it brings a much-needed break from the school year and lots of time with friends eating Maryland blue crabs. Wendy Harrell, is a 40-year-old proud wife, and mother of two amazing boys. When she’s not team mom, assistant coach, den leader, homework directing and mom to her two boys or secretary/assistant to her talented and hard-working husband, She works as a pediatric physical therapist in the Prince George’s County school system and at the Prince George’s Community College Children’s Developmental Clinic.
Working with many children with special needs and their families has taught her to be patient, compassionate, and look to always find strength during times of struggles.
She has to give credit to her parents because she believes she is who she is today based on the values they instilled in her and the encouragement they gave her. She strives to be as driven, selfless, and caring as them in order to make this world a happier place for everyone!
